How to make Dandelion Wine

This post brings you articles from various sources.

Dandelions For Homemade Wine

Dandelions grow in most parts of the country. Here in North Carolina, we see them all year, but they mainly flower from March to November. You can collect the entire plant including the root if you want a drier, more bitter wine. Use just the flowers if you want a sweeter wine. Either way, clean them well. The roots can harbor sand in the crevasses, and bacteria on the entire plant.

Dandelion wine is an old school recipe that has been around for centuries. The yellow petals have a honey-like flavor and they make a delicious wine! I prefer to make dandelion mead, as I feel like it is even more flavorful that way. Mead is simply wine that is made with honey instead of sugar. This dandelion mead recipe is easy to make and uses the abundance of foraged dandelions to make a delicious and highly drinkable beverage!

Dandelion Wine Recipe (from - https://www.diynatural.com/dandelion-wine-recipe/)

Ingredients
1 package brewing yeast (find a versatile winemaking yeast here)
¼ cup warm filtered water (find the best water filtration systems here)
4 cups dandelions, chopped, or dandelion flowers (see explanation above to determine which one to use)
1-gallon warm water
¼ cup lemon juice
¼ cup lime juice
juice from 4 oranges
¼ cup chopped orange peels
1 tablespoon freshly grated ginger
4 cups raw sugar or equivalent of sugar substitute*
1-gallon glass jug, or a few smaller glass bottles (find 1-gallon glass jug here)
homebrew airlock (find them at homebrew supply stores or online here)
Source - https://www.diynatural.com/dandelion-wine-recipe/
*You will still add sugar even if you use sugar substitute.

Instructions
Step 1
1. Clean dandelions well, making sure they are free of dirt and bugs.
2. Add yeast to ¼ cup warm water and stir. Set the yeast mixture aside and move on to the next step.
3. Add all remaining ingredients to a pot and simmer for about an hour. Turn off and cool a bit. Strain through a fine mesh strainer.
4. Cool to about 100°F. Transfer liquid to your glass jug and add the yeast mixture. Stir well and top with an airlock.

Step 2
After you have the water lock in place, let the wine sit in a cool, dark place for 3-4 weeks to allow fermentation to take place. You'll know it's done when the bubbling stops.
When it's finished, you can strain off the sediment if desired. Next, bottle it in traditional wine bottlesand cork them or use Weck bottles.

Dandelion Wine Method #2: Low and Slow (from - https://morningchores.com/dandelion-wine/)

Ingredients:
The same recipe can be used for this method as the one listed above. You’ll just need:
A crock or large pot
Cheesecloth or cloth towel
Raisins
One sliced orange
One sliced lemon

1. Collect the Flowers
You are going to start this method the same as you did the last, by picking flowers. Again remember, the blossoms will give your wine a sweeter taste. If you include the whole flower (including the green) it will give the wine a more bitter taste. It is all about your preference.
Be sure to clean your flowers for sanitary purposes. You don’t want any ‘unwanted natural ingredients’ getting into your wine.

2. Boil Water
Next, you’ll need to bring a pot of water to a boil. This recipe is a little less detailed so you’ll have to eyeball how many dandelions you picked to know how much water to pour over them.
If you are unsure of measurements in this recipe, borrow the same amounts from the previous method. After the water has boiled, pour it over the dandelions that should’ve been placed into a large pot or crock.

Let the water and dandelions sit for three days inside the pot or crock.

3. Add Zest
Now that three days have passed, you’ll want to zest the oranges and lemons. Remember that zest usually adds a bitter taste to any recipe. So keep that in mind as you are adding zest to your recipe.

4. Boil the Flower Mixture
After you’ve zested your lemons and oranges, you’ll want to add that to the flower mixture. Then you’ll want to put that flower mixture in a pot so you can bring the whole thing to a boil.

5. Dissolve
After the mixture has been brought to a boil, you’ll want to remove it from the heat. Then you’ll strain the mixture.

Next, you’ll need to add sugar to the liquid you just strained. Stir the sugar into the liquid until it has dissolved completely. Then let it cool.

6. Add the Good Stuff
Now it is time to add the orange and lemon slices. Again, use your judgment as to how much you think would suit your taste.

But the interesting part to this method is that it calls for raisins. So you’ll want to add those during this step as well. I’m a huge raisin fan so this really caught my eye.

7. Ferment
After you have added all of the delicious ingredients, you’ll want to put the mixture back into a crock and cover with a towel or cheesecloth.

Then you’ll need to allow it to ferment. A good way to know that the mixture has finished fermenting is when it stops bubbling.

After the fermentation is done you’ll need to strain the mixture and place in bottles. Place a deflated balloon over the top of the bottles. If the balloon doesn’t inflate over a 24 hour period then you know that fermentation is completely finished.

8. Store
The last step to making wine with this method is to cork the wine and store it in a cold and dark place for about 6 months.

After that, it is ready to be gifted or enjoyed. It is up to you. A word of caution with the corking and storage process, though. Make sure fermentation is completely finished before corking the bottles. Also, do not store in a warm location either. Either or both of these mistakes could cause your bottles to become small explosives.

So now that you know two methods of making dandelion wine, you are ready for most any occasion. This would be something unique to pull out for a family gathering. It also would make great house warming gifts. Or a great addition inside gift baskets for the holidays.

But I want to hear from you. Have you ever made dandelion wine? How do you make it? Do you make any other unique beverages that people around you enjoy? Would you mind sharing with us what you make and how you make it? I’m sure our community would love to hear your ideas!

Essential oils are one of the most important herbal mixtures for different ailments. However, using essential oils for migraines and headaches are very effective.
Essential Oils for Migraines and Headaches

What are essential oils?

Essential oil is a liquid extracted from a plant used for different kind of things. One medical field that concentrates on using essential oils for treatment is aromatherapy.

Migraine Headache Statistics

Migraine headaches are incredibly debilitating. It is estimated that millions of man-hours are lost every year by workers suffering from migraine headaches. In the USA alone, 37 million people suffer from migraine headaches. More women than men are afflicted with migraines, and they are generally aged between 35-55. Migraines can and do appear in much younger people, some in their teens. Research shows that 91% of migraine sufferers have to miss work and are unable to function normally during an attack. That’s a lot of suffering!

Top Essential Oils for Migraines and Headaches

1. Peppermint

Peppermint oil uses and benefits include its long-lasting cooling effect on the skin, ability to inhibit muscle contractions and role in stimulating blood flow in the forehead when applied topically.

Applying peppermint essential oil topically across the forehead and on the temples effectively alleviates a tension headache. In a 1996 study, 41 patients (and 164 headache attacks) were analyzed in a placebo-controlled, double-blind crossover study. The peppermint oil was applied topically 15 and 30 minutes after a headache began.

Participants reported pain relief in their headache diaries, and peppermint oil proved to be a well-tolerated and cost-effective alternative to usual headache therapies. There were also no adverse side effects reported after peppermint treatment.

Another important study was conducted in 1995 and published in theInternational Journal of Phytotherapy and Phytopharmacology. Thirty-two healthy participants were evaluated, and essential oil treatment was investigated by comparing the baseline and treatment measurements. One effective treatment was a combination of peppermint oil, eucalyptus oil and ethanol.

Researchers used a small sponge to apply this mixture, which has a muscle-soothing and mentally relaxing effect, to the participants’ foreheads and temples. When peppermint was mixed with just ethanol, researchers found that it reduces sensitivity during a headache.

In order to improve blood circulation, reduce pain and relieve tension, dilute two to three drops of peppermint oil with coconut oil and rub it into the shoulders, forehead and back of neck.

2. Rosemary oil

Rosemary oil is traditionally used to treat headaches and improve circulation.

There are few studies that specifically support rosemary oil as an effective headache treatment. However, a 2008 study suggests that rosemary oil has anti-inflammatory and pain-killing properties.
Another study from 2013 found that rosemary oil helped to reduce pain and insomnia in people going through opium withdrawal treatment.

These research examples suggest that rosemary oil may reduce the pain associated with a headache. However, more studies on humans are required before this can be confirmed.

Essential Oils for Migraines and Headaches

3. Ginger

Ginger (Zingiber officinale) essential oil helps to relieve the nausea associated with a migraine. Ginger has been studied extensively for its effect on the gastrointestinal tract. It has been proven to be extremely effective for relieving nausea and vomiting. Ginger also has pain relieving properties.

4. Eucalyptus

Eucalyptus works as an expectorant — it helps cleanse the body of toxins and harmful microorganisms. It also opens the nasal airways and eliminates sinus pressure that can lead to a nasty headache, all while promoting emotional balance and boosting mood.

A clinical trial published in Evidence-Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine states that inhaling eucalyptus oil can decrease a person’s pain and blood pressure. The study involved 52 patients who recently underwent total knee replacement surgery. Eucalyptus oil treatment promoted emotional stability in the patients, reduced edema formation and had anti-inflammatory effects. These pain-reducing and relaxing effects can be beneficial to people suffering from tension headaches.

A 2011 study conducted in Israel evaluated the efficacy of eucalyptus oil when used on patients with respiratory conditions that can lead to cough, sore throat and tension headaches. Patients reported that eucalyptus oil improved breathing and reduced runny nose.

Researchers reported that the oil showed anti-inflammatory effects when used to treat respiratory conditions. It exhibited antibacterial, antiviral and antimicrobial properties that alleviate sinus pressure caused by an inflammatory response.

Dilute two to four drops of eucalyptus oil with a carrier oil, and apply it topically to the chest, back of the neck, temples and forehead. This eliminates nasal buildup and clears your airways — alleviating the sinus tension that leads to a headache or migraine attack.

5. Cajeput Oil

Cajeput contains a chemical called cineole, which when applied directly to skin, causes it to get warm and become slightly irritated. This helps “confuse” nerve endings in the skin and mask pain. It’s often used to treat tooth aches and joint pain, but when applied to the temples it can relieve head pain as well.

For added benefit, toss in a little chamomile, rosemary and eucalyptus oils to relieve tension in the body and promote relaxation.

As a bonus, this essential oil headache roll-on also works for other aches and pains like joint pain, tooth aches and general soreness. Just apply directly to the problem area and massage into skin.

6. Chamomile Roman Oil

A wonderful choice for helping headache symptoms associated with stress or exhaustion. Chamomile Roman helps to relax tension in the body and is best used before bed, due to its sedative and relaxing properties [6]. Like Lavender, Chamomile Roman is safe for children to use.

Baking Soda for UTI – Urinary Tract Infection

Many home remedies claim to get rid of urinary tract infections, but there is often no research to back them up. So, is it true that baking soda can help treat these conditions?

A urinary tract infection (UTI) is an infection anywhere in the urinary tract, including the bladder, urethra, ureters and kidneys. Urinary tract infections are among the most common infections treated as first aid.

Some people have recurrent urinary tract infections that cause them to look for alternatives to antibiotics. Taking a small amount of sodium bicarbonate or baking soda mixed with water is a home remedy that some people have tried to undergo a urinary tract infection.

However, little research has been done on the efficacy of sodium bicarbonate in urinary tract infections and may not be safe for everyone. Read on to find out more about this remedy, other home remedies and medical treatments to get rid of urinary tract infections.

What is Urinary Tract Infection (UTI)?

Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) is a condition in which different types of germs, such as bacteria, fungi or parasites enter the urinary tract and cause an infection. The main forms of urinary infection are cystitis, which affects the bladder; pyelonephritis, which affects the kidneys; urethritis, which affects the urethra and the ureterocele, which affects the ureters.

Baking Soda for UTI – Urinary Tract Infection

Although this condition can affect anyone, women tend to develop it more than men and children. Although urinary tract infection does not really pose a health threat, however, in the event of failure to properly treat in time, the infection could become more painful and spread to other organs, causing permanent damage.

Causes of urinary tract infection

The most common cause of this condition is the presence of E. coli bacteria, which can occur in the large intestine. Some particular types of fungi or parasites may also be responsible agents. In general, infections occur as follows:

Germs enter the body through the urethra, a tube that helps remove urine from the bladder and is eliminated through the penis or vagina.

Germs inside the urethra tend to infect the bladder and kidneys.
With a shorter urethra than men, women tend to be more susceptible to infections.

Symptoms of urinary tract infection

From men

  • Burning sensation during urination
  • Cloudy urine
  • Frequent urge to urinate but in small quantities
  • Urine with a strong smell
  • Traces of blood in the urine
  • Rectal pain
  • Backache
  • Pain in the genitals during urination
  • Abdominal and testicular pain

In women

  • Frequent urination
  • Small amounts of urine at close intervals
  • Dark and murky urine
  • Traces of blood in the urine
  • Pelvic pain
  • Urine with a strong smell
  • Backache
  • Temperature
  • Swelling

In children

  • Burning sensation during urination
  • Cloudy urine or traces of blood
  • Fever and vomiting
  • Small amounts of urine at close intervals
  • Poor diet
  • Nighttime incontinence
  • Diarrhea
  • Abdominal pain
  • Headache

Using Baking Soda for UTI – Urinary Tract Infection

The sodium bicarbonate can neutralize the acid in the urine. However, this treatment could pose a significant risk to health if used incorrectly.

Sodium bicarbonate is said to neutralize the acid in the urine, which presumably reduces the symptoms of a UTI and allows the body to fight off the bacteria that cause the infection.

People who support this remedy also state that baking soda can prevent infection from spreading to the kidneys.

But there is little evidence to suggest that bicarbonate of soda can cure a UTI, although some people may report that it reduces their discomfort and urgency.

Is it safe?

People must remember that baking soda can be very harmful if taken incorrectly. Furthermore, research does not support the use of sodium bicarbonate as an effective treatment for urinary tract infections.

The California Poison Control System reported on 192 cases of sodium bicarbonate abuse, and nearly 5% of these were related to people who were trying to treat a UTI.

Most people in this study required medical treatment after trying to use sodium bicarbonate. Some of the complications encountered include severe electrolyte and acid or base imbalances and respiratory depression.

In addition, the researchers of this study warn that the use of baking soda as a home remedy can cause people to delay medical care, which can lead to worsening of symptoms and further complications.

Complications related to the intake of too much bicarbonate include:

  • Diarrhea
  • Nausea
  • Stomach ache
  • Vomit
  • Convulsions
  • Coma

Conclusion
Baking soda can relieve the symptoms of a urinary tract infection in some people. However, this treatment can pose a significant health risk. It is therefore important to consult a doctor before considering the use of baking soda for urinary tract infection.

It is very important you contact your health provider(s) to give you the best advice when it comes to treating urinary tract infection (UTI). Using baking soda to treat it might not be the best of choice for you or your health.

How to Get Rid of a UTI in 24 Hours

Some people like to try home remedies for UTI - urinary tract infections, probably because of growing concerns about antibiotic-resistant bacteria, as well as concerns about adverse reactions caused by antibiotics.

Some even want to get rid of UTI in 24 hours; this is near impossible, as you shouldn’t expect a day ‘miracle’. However, within a few days, you should see great improvements.

Urinary infections are the infections of the anatomical structures that form the so-called urinary system, namely: kidneys, ureters, bladder, and urethra.

In defining the various urinary infections, doctors talk about urethritis when urinary infection is limited to the urethra, of cystitis when the infectious process affects the bladder, of ureteritis when the infection is located in one of the ureters and pyelonephritis when the infection affects one of the kidneys.

The components of the urinary tract most affected are the urethra and the bladder (the most frequent urinary infection is cystitis); however, even if in a much more rare way, the other urinary tract districts (the aforementioned kidneys and ureters) may also be involved.

The main cause of urinary infections is a bacterium that normally lives inside the gastrointestinal tract: the well-known Escherichia coli.

The therapy is generally based on antibiotics, whose methods of administration vary according to the severity of the infection.

While it is possible for some home remedies to work for some people, others will need to use medical treatments in combination with some of the additional methods that will be discussed.

Symptoms of UTI – Urinary Tract Infections

What are the symptoms of urinary tract infections?

The typical symptoms of a urinary infection are: dysuria, urge to urinate, pain in the lower abdomen, the need to urinate often, the production of foul-smelling, cloudy urine, and the inability to empty the bladder completely.

The symptoms of cystitis and urethritis - that is the infections of the lower urinary tract - include:

  • Impossibility to urinate despite the stimulus;

  • Frequent urination (pollakiuria);

  • An urgency to urinate;

  • Painful urination (stranguria);

  • Pain in the pelvic and lumbar region;

  • Blood in the urine (haematuria);

  • Purulent urine;

  • Temperature.

Symptoms of high urinary tract infections include:

  • Chills;

  • High fever;

  • Nausea;

  • He retched;

  • Lumbar and thoracic pain;

You can associate the symptoms of infections of the lower urinary tract, already mentioned above.

Prevention of UTI – Urinary Tract Infection

If you suspect you have a urinary tract infection due to the appearance of one or more symptoms, you should contact a doctor immediately, avoiding "do-it-yourself" therapies. A urine culture should be performed together with urinalysis to identify the microorganism that caused the infection.

While waiting for the result, together with the therapy prescribed by the doctor, drink plenty of water outside of meals, even if the frequency of micturitions increases to help eliminate bacteria.

When infections are recurrent or recurrent, a check is required by a specialist who excludes anatomical defects of the urinary tract, systemic diseases such as diabetes, which promote infections, or functional changes in the urinary tract that alter the normal emptying of the bladder.

How to Get Rid of UTI in 24 Hours

The following home remedies will help you get rids of a UTI fast:

Changes in the diet

A person with a UTI should drink a lot of water. This dilutes the urine, making it less acidic, while also helping to flush out the bacteria from the urinary tract.

Some foods and Beverages

Different foods and beverages can irritate a sensitive bladder and people should avoid these if they have a UTI. Some of the worst include:

  • Alcohol
  • Caffeine
  • Citrus
  • Sodas
  • Spices

Blueberry juice

Bilberry juice is a popular home remedy for UTI. The ingestion of blueberry juice has been shown to lower the acidity of the urine.

However, several clinical trials have tested blueberry juice for the prevention of UTI, but the results are inconclusive and the studies have different limitations.

However, some people find relief from their symptoms after drinking blueberry juice. They should choose a sugar-free juice where possible, and stop drinking if it causes diarrhea or an upset stomach.

Blueberry juice should be avoided by people taking blood-thinning drugs, such as warfarin.
Essential oils

Essential oils can help treat some types of bacterial infections

For example, a study suggests that citronella oil can fight several common pathogens, including Escherichia coli (E. coli), which is the bacterium responsible for most urinary tract infections.

People are advised to speak with a doctor before using essential oils for the treatment of a UTI.

It is essential to remember that essential oils should not be swallowed. They must be inhaled through a diffuser, or applied to the skin in a diluted form, using a carrier oil.
Medical treatments for UTI

The first-line treatment for a UTI is an antibiotic drug. This can be used together with home remedies to treat the symptoms or treat the infection.

Antibiotics

The type of antibiotics prescribed by a doctor will vary depending on the bacteria present in the urine and the clinical history and health status of the individual.

For a simple UTI, the following antibiotics can be used:

  • Ceftriaxone (Rocephin)
  • Cephalexin (Keflex)
  • Fosfomycin (Monurol)
  • Nitrofurantoin (Macrodantin, Macrobid)
  • Sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim (Bactrim, Sulfatrim)

In most cases, people will see their symptoms improve within a few days and the infection resolves in about a week.

Frequent or complicated infections may require different types of treatment. Often, a doctor will suggest:

  • Low dose antibiotics for 6 months or more
  • Single-dose antibiotics after sexual activity if infections are caused by sexual intercourse
  • Vaginal estrogen therapy for postmenopausal women

Hospitalization and treatment with intravenous antibiotics are sometimes necessary for serious ICUs. In all cases, people must finish all medications as prescribed.

Over-the-counter drugs

If the pain and discomfort of a UTI are interfering with a person's quality of life and daily activities, a doctor may recommend a drug called fenazopyridine (Baridium, Pyridium) to be used together with other treatments.

This medication will often change the color of a person's urine in bright orange or red and may stain the underwear. It could also cause discoloration of contact lenses.

Phenazopyridine is a pain medication that numbs the bladder and urethra so that the urination becomes less painful. However, it does not cure UTI but relieves symptoms.

Prevention of UTI

People who are at risk for UTI can take certain measures to prevent them from developing in the first instance.

By doing the following, an individual can help prevent a urinary tract infection:

  • Avoid the use of soap, vaginal doses and other feminine hygiene products in the genital area
  • Consider the possibility of changing birth control methods, because diaphragms and condoms treated with spermicides can cause bacterial growth
  • Avoid keeping urine in the bladder longer than necessary
  • Stay hydrated by drinking lots of water
  • Take a shower instead of a bathroom
  • Urinate before and after sexual intercourse
  • Dry and wash well after intercourse

For women, it is also advisable to clean from front to back after going to the bathroom, to prevent the bacteria from spreading from the anus to the vagina and urethra.

Complications of untreated urinary tract infections

Urinary tract infections rarely cause complications if they are diagnosed quickly and treated properly.

However, untreated urinary tract infections can have the following consequences:

Permanent kidney injury
IVU recurrent, especially in women
Risk of low birth weight or premature birth in pregnant women
Sepsis, a life-threatening condition
Narrowing of the urethra or stenosis in men

Conclusion

Timely diagnosis and appropriate treatments reduce the risk of complications associated with urinary tract infections. So, immediately you start seeing the signs and symptoms of urinary tract infection (UTI), you should see your healthcare provider for proper guidance.

Temple massage - Image source: Pinterest

It is not difficult to relieve a headache, even when at first it looks like a herculean task. Some techniques however, can help calm and relieve the pain. Acupressure for headache is one of the oldest alternative therapies used to treat various pains.

To practice acupressure, it is necessary to learn to identify and work on the pressure points, that is to say when there is an accumulation of nerves located in certain areas of the body, such as temples. By working properly on these areas of the body, it is possible to stimulate blood circulation and relax muscles that are in tension and can cause pain.

The most common pain is usually a consequence of stress and tension. To conquer this problem and minimize its effects, we present some acupressure techniques that you can use comfortably at home.

How should one exert pressure?

Pressure Points for Headache Relief Diagram
When some pressure is exerted on certain areas of the body, the same pressure must be provided on the tip of the opposite side, so that the energy is balanced.

To stimulate the area in question, you can exert pressure with a slow, circular massage or exert a stronger friction, depending on the type of physical reaction you want to get. You can press with your fingers, palms or thumbs.

Acupressure to relieve headaches and stress

Massage at the temples

Temple massage - Image source: Pinterest
The temples are located on the sides of the head, at the level of the eyebrows. To know exactly where they are, place the thumbs at the end of the eyebrows and place them on the head of about a centimeter and a half.

Once the temples are located, press lightly and massage them at the same time, counterclockwise. This massage can last up to a minute and while you do it, you have to breathe deeply.

Internal eyebrow extensions

Pressure Points for Headache Relief Diagram

Just above the bridge of the nose and inside the eyebrows, two pressure points can help relieve headaches and tension. In this case, pressing is not recommended as this could cause problems. Ideally, massage gently with your index finger for thirty seconds.

Meeting point of the wrist

Now locate the pinkie and wrist joint and apply constant pressure for 30 seconds. Then, exert the same pressure on both wrists and you will notice that the tension headache will improve.

If you want to relax completely, eliminate stress and headaches, close your left hand with your thumb on your index finger. Therefore, the acupressure point is exactly where the thumb and forefinger are in the upper left.

Again, press for 30 seconds and repeat the process.

Use your feet

The pressure points on the feet are connected to the various organs of the body. To stimulate and relieve the headache, press the area between the big toe and the second finger a little. You should use the thumb of your hand and press the top for 30 seconds or a minute.

Another option to relieve acupressure headaches and stress is to apply pressure on the bottom of the foot behind the foot bone. Again, press for 30 seconds and repeat the process on the other foot.

Skull base

Skin whitening is very popular, and so many people seek to know how to whiten their skin overnight, especially among women, and it is not restricted to one part of the world – it cuts across all the continents and nations of the world.

What is Skin Whitening or Lightening?

Skin whitening is using physical treatment, mixtures or substances to lighten the skin. How does it work? These substances or mixtures work by reducing the melanin in the body. This process aims to lighten the dark spots or darkened part of the skin.(1)

Some of these skin whitening agents are helpful when it comes to their side effects, which include nutrients, anti-oxidants and reduction in the risk of skin cancer, while some skin whitening agents are harmful to the health.(2)

People tend to lighten part of their skin or the whole skin for different reasons – some wants to lighten a dark spot on their skin, some patches, some are using it to erase the dark spot in the body, some tend to use it to erase birthmarks, while some want to use it on the whole body to look more beautiful.

People often go to drug stores and beauty stores to purchase whitening or bleaching agents such as lotion, facial wash, soap, and cream to lighten their complexion. However, so many people have faced various disappointments such as ineffective substances and negative side effects from some products.

These disappointments have led many to search for other means of improving their complexions, such as the natural and home remedy of lightening the skin.

Here, we have some home remedies that will help improve the complexion of the skin in the most natural way, while you don’t have to worry about harsh side effects.

Without keeping you wait for long, let us delve into how you can get rid of these dark patches.

Dark Patches on Skin: The 10 Effective Remedies

Orange

One fruit that has whitening properties as well as nutrients for the skin is orange. Orange is very rich in Vitamin C and has some properties that can also lighten the skin. Eating orange on regular basis improves the health and texture of the skin.

For skin lightening and erasing black spots on face, there are two methods you can employ(3):

Method 1

  • Cut a fresh orange into two
  • Squeeze and extract two tablespoons of the orange juice
  • Mix the two table spoons with one pinch of turmeric powder
  • Apply on the skin or dark spots
  • Leave for 30 minutes, then gently rinse off
  • Repeat the above steps daily

Method 2
  • Extract the back of orange (orange peel)
  • Dry it under sunlight
  • Squeeze the dried peels until it turns into powder
  • Mix with a tablespoon of plain yoghurt
  • Apply on skin
  • Leave for 20 minutes, then gently wash off
  • Repeat above steps three times in a week

Licorice Root Extracts

Licorice root extract is regarded by experts as one of the most effective natural ways of lightening the skin.(4) Regarded as an ayurvedic remedy which cures many health conditions, dark spots as well as scars.

The licorice root extract has glabridin which prevents enzymes that causes skin blackness from functioning; this compound (glabridin) also absorbs UVA and UVB rays from the skin.

Finally, the glabridin minimizes the production of melanin in the body and balances the skin lightening.

Here are the two methods used in treating dark spots with licorice root extracts:

  • Wash off completely with warm water
  • Apply moisturizer on skin
  • Repeat above steps 2 to 3 times weekly

Lemon juice has acidic components that are capable of bleaching the skin lightly and also exfoliates the top layer of skin cells. No wonder this method has been used for thousands of years for skin lightening.(5)

It should however be noted that using 100 percent lemon juice on the skin can cause skin irritation – so you should avoid that. I’m sure you are asking what you should do. Simple – dilute with water.

  • Wash off with warm water
  • Apply moisturizer after washing it off
